Eligibility and Disability Verification

DSP&S provides services and accommodations to assist students who have temporary or permanent disabilities that affect academic functioning.

Eligible disabilities include:

  • physical disabilities
  • deaf/hard of hearing
  • blind/low vision
  • learning disabilities
  • acquired brain injury
  • attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • intellectual disabilities
  • autism spectrum disabilities
  • mental health disabilities
  • other disabilities which limit one or more major life activites and which impose an educational limitation (Title 5 Regulations, Section 56032-56044, 56002).

If you are not sure whether you are eligible for services, please contact the DSP&S office at the campus you attend for further information.

In order to receive DSP&S services, students must:

  1. Have a disability which is verified and is determined to result in an educational limitation by appropriate DSP&S professional staff. (Title 5 Regulations, Section 56006.)
  2. Complete an intake interview and, if necessary, participate in additional testing to establish eligibility.
  3. Complete all required program paperwork which will include but is not limited to:
    • Application for Services
    • Consent to Release Information
    • Disability Verification: Healthcare providers may complete the medical or mental health verification forms. DSP&S may also be able to use other verification records such as Psych Reports/IEP records, outside assessments by a licensed professional and other official medical record documentation.
