Psychological Services offices have reopened across all campuses! 

Psychological Services is now offering both in-person and online individual therapy (via Zoom) to current SCCCD students.

If you are a student and you would like to set up therapy, please fill out our online intake form

Services

Eligibility

All current active students of Fresno City College (and any community college within the State Center Community College District) are eligible for clinical services. In the event that a student drops their coursework, services may be terminated and appropriate referrals will be offered.

Students may seek Psychological Services for various reasons. The following are some common student concerns: adjustment to college, anxiety, depression, relationship and family issues, personal growth and exploration, grief and loss, stress and anger management, and questions regarding sexual orientation or gender identity.

Intake (Triage) Process

During the initial intake/triage session, students are informed of SCCCD Psychological Services policies as well as their rights as a client, the limits of confidentiality, and other information pertinent to clinical settings. The best treatment referral options for the student are determined by the therapist during this session, which may include a referral for therapy outside the clinic with a community-based therapist or other resource.

Once students have completed their intake with Psychological Services staff, the therapist will let the student know what treatment is recommended. Students may be asked to pursue any of the following options:

  • Online individual therapy through Psychological Services at SCCCD
  • Online group therapy through Psychological Services at SCCCD
  • Assessment through Psychological Services at SCCCD

If the therapist determines that the most comprehensive treatment for the student cannot be best addressed by SCCCD Psychological Services, the student may be referred to:

  • Free individual therapy through the Gary W. Cannon Psychological Services Center, operated by the California School of Professional Psychology at Fresno's Alliant University: PSC Website
  • Our list of community resources, which include psychiatric services, psychotherapy services, crisis hotlines, and other community clinics/services.

Group Therapy

Psychological Services is currently offering over 10 weekly groups for students. You must be 18+ and a current SCCCD student to attend. At this time, due to the ongoing pandemic, most of our groups are held virtually via Zoom. For more information about the groups currently offered, click the Group Therapy tab below. If you are interested in signing up for a group, please fill out our Group Consent Form.

Talking Circles

Psychological Services also hosts Talking Circles, intended to be a safe place for students to express their feelings on specific topics. In Talking Circles, SCCCD therapists act more as a moderator than a therapist, as the focus is on helping students feel heard. If you are interested in one of our Talking Circles, you can email PsychServices@SCCCD.edu or complete our Talking Circle Form to be added to the mailing list for upcoming Talking Circles.

Talking Circles offered in Fall 2022:

  • Student Justice & Healing Circle: Tuesdays 2pm-3pm
  • Adjusting During Covid: Oct. 8 & 22, and Nov. 12, 2pm-3pm

Assessment

SCCCD Psychological Services offers multiple types of psychological testing for students. If you have concerns that your education is being impacted by an undiagnosed mental health condition such as ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorder or Depression, please email us at PsychServices@SCCCD.edu for further information about our assessment services.

As students return to campus, Psychological Services clinicians will be running monthly themed outreach events. Watch this space and our social media accounts for upcoming events!

Groups offered in Spring 2022:

  • Mondays:
    • Sleep Hygiene Mon TBD: Techniques for better, more restful sleep (virtual via Zoom)
  • Tuesdays:
    • Parenting Tues 10am-11am: Support for students who are parents (virtual via Zoom)
    • Comfort in the Chaos Tues 11am-12pm: Discussing adjusting to college (virtual via Zoom)
    • Anxiety Toolbox Tues 3pm-4pm: Learn skills to cope with anxiety (virtual via Zoom)
    • Interpersonal Skills Tues TBD: Improving communication skills (virtual via Zoom)
  • Wednesdays:
    • Anxiety Toolbox Weds 11am-12pm: Learn skills to cope with anxiety (virtual via Zoom)
    • Healthy Relationships Weds 1pm-2pm: Relationships & healthy boundaries (virtual via Zoom)
    • Rainbow Radar Weds 2pm-3pm: LGBTQIA+ support (virtual via Zoom)
    • CrossBrace Weds 3pm-4pm: Men's Support Group (in-person, FCC room SC-216)
  • Thursdays:
    • Mindfulness Thurs 1pm-2pm: Enhancing awareness and personal calm (virtual via Zoom)
    • Acceptance & Commitment Thurs 3pm-4pm: Utilizing ACT techniques for personal growth (virtual via Zoom)

Psychological Services offers walk-in assistance to current students who are experiencing crisis situations. If you are struggling with a serious issue, please feel free to stop by our office during open hours so that we can support you!

If the office is closed and you are:

  • Experiencing thoughts or urges to harm others or end someone else’s life
  • Having suicidal thoughts
  • Experiencing thoughts or urges to harm yourself or end your life
  • Actively engaging in self-harm

Please immediately call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or call SCCCD campus police at 559.442.8201. You can also contact:

  • or text HOME to the Crisis Text Line at 741741.
If a friend is struggling and you're not sure what to do, you may wish to review the Do's And Don'ts of Crisis For Students.

If you are a faculty member or administrator with non-emergency concerns about a student and you would like a consultation, please call the Psychological Services mainline at (559) 443 - 8687 and leave a message. Alternatively, you can email the department at PsychServices@SCCCD.edu. A clinician will return the message within 2 – 3 business days.

At this time, staff who have a student in serious crisis (disclosing harm to self or harm to others) should immediately call their Campus Police department or local police to evaluate the student rather than referring to Psychological Services in order to ensure the safety of the student.
