Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS)

The Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), and Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program provides comprehensive support services to first generation college students who come from low-income and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. “Over and above” support services are provided to assist students in the completion of their educational goals.

EOPS Services

EOPS provides academic and financial support to community college students whose educational and socioeconomic backgrounds may deter them from successfully attending college and completing their educational goals. Services include:

 

Individualized counseling and support

  • Students required to meet with counselor (3) times per term
  • Development of student educational plans
  • Personal counseling, guidance and motivation
  • Career planning and course selection
  • Assistance with graduation requirements

Priority Registration

  • First students to register for classes
  • Access courses earlier to reach educational goals

Academic Progress Monitoring

  • Monitor academic progress
  • Timely intervention and supportive services
  • Referrals to campus resources for personal and academic success

EOPS Textbook Service Program

  • Textbook voucher to help pay for required textbooks

Financial Assistance

  • EOPS financial aid grant (more money to help with educational costs)
  • Referrals to financial aid office

Academic Success Workshop

  • Upcoming deadlines
  • Scholarship opportunities
  • Tutoring services
  • Access to additional services/resources to reach educational goals

Specialized Transition Service

  • CSU/UC admissions application fees waived
  • Fieldtrips to 4-year colleges to understand the transfer process
  • Assistance with the transfer process
