Direct Loans

Direct Stafford Loans, from the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, are low-interest loans for eligible students to help cover the cost of higher education at a four-year college or university, community college, or trade, career, or technical school. Eligible students borrow directly from the U.S. Department of Education at participating schools. 

 

Direct Loan Eligibility Requirements   

  • You must file a FAFSA
  • You must be enrolled in at least six degree applicable units.
  • You must meet academic progress standards as outlined in our Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy  
  • You must be a high school graduate or have a high school equivalency and not be concurrently enrolled in high school
  • You must not be receiving Title IV financial aid at another higher education institution

Loan Borrower Instructions

You must first complete a FAFSA​ and your financial aid eligibility must be determined before applying for a loan.

Step 1: Complete the Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling. Step 2: Complete the MCC Loan Request Form

Your financial aid eligibility must be determined before applying for a loan. Submit a COMPLETED Direct Loan Request form to the Financial Aid Office.  Requests submitted with missing or blank information will not be accepted or processed.

Student Loan Application Deadlines

Students must complete the above steps prior to the deadline for the semester the loan is being requested.
