Crisis Do's and Dont's for Students

We want to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students during these unpredictable times. However, SCCCD Psychological Services is NOT a crisis/suicide hotline. Please do not hesitate to contact us AFTER the following has been done:

DO call the campus or district police if:

  • You are experiencing suicidal (i.e., thoughts of harming yourself) or homicidal thoughts (i.e., thoughts of harming others). You will not get in trouble for calling the police. They want to provide you with help, just as anyone else would. YOUR LIFE MATTERS!
  • If you have access to weapons and/or medication that you plan on using to hurt yourself or others with.
  • There’s a classmate who tells you about their suicidal or homicidal thoughts. Attempt to retrieve the classmate’s last name and ID#, and give this information to Campus PD. If the information is sent to you via social media or text, call Campus PD and also forward them the information (e.g., screenshots of the conversation) via email (they will let you know the email address). Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
  • You can additionally tell the student to text HOME to 741741, contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: (800)273-8255, or the Central Valley Suicide Prevention Hotline: (888) 506-5991

DO call Child Welfare Services if:

If there is (physical, sexual, neglect, witnessing domestic violence) in your home and a minor (i.e., someone under the age of 18) was the victim or a witness to it. Retrieve as much information you can about this case and report it to:

  • Fresno County CWS:  (559) 600-8320
  • Madera County CWS: (559) 662-8300
