What is WIC?

WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children eat well and stay healthy.

What are the goals of the WIC program?

  • To decrease the complications of pregnancy
  • To prevent low birth weight babies
  • To decrease iron deficiency anemia
  • To promote and support breast feeding
  • To improve the health of participants during critical times of growth and development

What can I get at WIC?

  • Nutrition education
  • Supplemental foods
  • Help with breast feeding
  • Referrals for medical care and other services
  • The specific nutritious foods provided to participants include milk, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, iron-fortified cereal, juices, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, larger food packets for exclusively breast-feeding women
